Dawson named Civil Engineer of the Year by ASCE Central Illinois Section
PEORIA, Ill. — Matthew Dawson, P.E., PTOE, an assistant vice president and the transportation practice lead for Hanson Professional Services Inc., was named the Civil Engineer of the Year on Sept. 28 during the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Central Illinois Section annual banquet in Champaign.
Dawson, who works in the Peoria office, rejoined the company in 2010; he previously worked for the firm from 2000 to 2006. He manages the roadway, traffic, railway and logistics disciplines within the company’s transportation practice. He also serves as the project engineer on a range of transportation projects and provides quality control review of technical documents and plans for projects throughout the country.
A member of ASCE, Dawson was named the Young Engineer of the Year by the Central Illinois Section in 2013. He also was named a Rising Star in Civil Engineering by Zweig White in 2012, one of InterBusiness Issues’ 40 Leaders Under Forty in 2011 and ASCE’s Outstanding Practitioner Adviser for Zone III in 2001. He is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Performance Effects of Geometric Design, for which he is the co-chair of the Contextual and Multimodal Design Subcommittee.
Dawson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Bradley University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Idaho and Missouri and a certified professional traffic operations engineer.
